HD-DVD is dead, the hi-def format war is finally over, toshiba conceded and has announced it's stopping production.
What's left for a sucker to do byt destroy his HD-DVD xbox 360 player in fire?
looks like SONY just had more money to throw around buying off studios and retailers for its version of a hi definition content disk. whatever, so long as we can have something before all physical media is made utterly obsolete by the awesomeness of online digital delivery. Enjoy your short lived victory Sony.

It was bound to happen, almost inevitable, but HD-DVD has been hacked. No sign of DVD-Jon this time though :)
HD-DVD uses an encryption system called AACS which stands for Advanced Access Content System, basically it is a system that restricts the devices that can play the discs.
But a Canadian hacker going by the name of Muslix64 has cracked it. A video of the software being used to extract Warner Brothers war epic Full Metal Jacked was posted on youtube but Warner Brothers has had it removed already, somebodys obviously very scared! What did they expect though? Nothing is uncrackable, they have probably a thousand people working on protecting a device, compare this to the hundreds of thousands of people who are attempting the crack it!
This version of the video has the copyright infringing section pixelated out and the audio muted, so the powers that be shouldnt remove this one!
For more information on this any many more hacks then head on over to www.hack247.co.uk

Since HD-DVD is officially dead I thought I'd put this up here. This started showing up on regular (not high-definition) DVDs released shortly after the HD-DVD format came on the market. Being in 4x3 with 2-channel audio it doesn't do much to suggest the quality it's capable of, but does show off a number of the extra stuff the format could do. (Although I have to ask to most of these- why would anyone WANT to do that?) It does point out the combo format, which I thought was pretty cool and something Blu-Ray doesn't do, since I could buy some HD titles and play them on my current system, then watch them in hi-def when I finally upgrade. (I've since bought an HD-DVD player on clearance for 80 bucks, but still don't have an HDTV yet.)
Some DVDs have a shorter version of this. I don't know the name of the guy who does the voiceover on this.
